3DReid can confirm that the Globe, after a 4-year absence, is about to return to its prominent location atop the spire of the former RW Forsyth department store in Princes Street following instruction by Arcadia, the building owner.
The gilded sphere, an intricate design featuring cherubic figures flanking signs of the zodiac, was designed by Gilbert Bayes and an integral feature of the Category A listed building, built in 1907.
Repair works on the 3 tonne spire are about to commence with Sharkey as the main contractor while the lead and steel globe sculpture is currently being worked on at Powderhall Bronze’s facility Granton.
The globe is due to be relocated to the spire overnight 26-27 June whle Edinburgh Trams are powered down. 3DReid are appointed as Architect and Contract Administrator.
