Daliburgh Primary School, part of the Western Isles Schools Programme, has been highly commended in the local Inverness Architectural Association annual awards in the Best Project Overall category.
Project Architect Andrew Marshall said: “The design is derived from our ability to understand the specific rural issues facing the project, therefore the team are delighted to receive this Commendation.
“What makes the acknowledgement particularly pleasing is that the client entrusted the team with essentially a blank piece of paper, stipulating only that the design should become a new primary school model for the Western Isles. The judging panel have recognised the sensitivity of the scheme and our attention to detail.
“For Daliburgh to be recognised in the Best Project Over All category is testament to the teams effort to understand, consult and deliver an exemplar design. The virtue in the scheme is the simple and refined solution to a complex series of brief requirements, creating shelter in an extreme environment and mediating the thresholds.”
The design was also recognised by the RIAS with a shortlisting and selected by Architecture + Design Scotland as one of their three exemplary family of schools design models.
