3DReid is delighted that Primark Birmingham is in the running for the World Retail Awards 2020.
Primark Birmingham is shortlisted for 2020’s Outstanding Store Design >1200sqm. Good luck to all finalists and we look forward to the announcement on 17th September 2020 of the winners selected by the Grand Jury.
Primark Birmingham
The opening of Primark’s flagship at No 38 High Street, the retailer’s largest development in the UK to date, provides an enhanced customer experience across 160,000 sqft of retail space.
Primark commissioned 3DReid to develop proposals to transform the former Pavilions shopping centre into a retail flagship. Productive dialogue with the Planning authority identified the opportunity to re-shape the inward-facing centre to create a landmark development which re-activates once dead frontages, re-vitalises the High Street by connecting it to a new retail circuit alongside the Bullring and Grand Central and delivers a new pedestrian route through the block, linking High Street and Moor Street, in the tradition of the many Victorian arcades that cross Birmingham City Centre.
The building is over-clad with illuminated mesh facades, and while the proposal provides a distinctive and coherent identity, the High Street façade forms part of an historic streetscape where the elevation is broken down into a sequence of facets giving oblique views along the street, while the geometry of the Moor Street façade responds to long-range vistas. Illuminated ETFE panels above entrances, and two full-height atria, highlight the route through the store, while upper-level retail sales areas on either side are linked by bridges.
Further details can be found on the World Retail Awards 2020 website and some more information detailed below.
The World Retail Awards, now entering their 14th year, aim to put a spotlight on the many examples of innovation, creativity and world-class retailing that can be found right across the retail industry. At a time of enormous change, all these qualities are having to be taken to an even higher-level in order to meet the needs of today’s consumers. This year’s Awards categories have been fully updated and reviewed in order to ensure that we recognise and reward all of the key areas that matter most to retailers in today’s market. We know from previous winners and finalists that this recognition serves as a powerful boost for morale within the business and also can be used effectively in external communications with stakeholders, suppliers and customers.
The award entries will all be reviewed by panels of expert judges who are specialists in each of the areas covered by the categories with the winners selected by the Grand Jury.
The Grand Jury is formed of retail leaders whose ideas have shaped retailing through the businesses and brands they have created, or by their skills in running the retail industry’s giants, with a wealth of knowledge and insight.
We look forward to the announcement on Thursday 17th September 2020.
