3DReid are delighted to be a finalist in the Building Design. Architect of the Year Awards 2020 in the refurbishment category.
We were honoured to win this prize back in 2017 and since then have continued to use our skill, expertise, knowledge and vision to transform buildings in a sympathetic, sustainable, sensitive and innovative manner, injecting new purpose and life into them. With the emphasis on sustainability growing through all aspects of our lives, it is becoming more important to look at retaining and reusing our existing buildings; redeveloping for the next generation of users.
Our submission highlighted our multi sector experience with projects in Retail, Residential and Hotels:
Primark, Birmingham
Currently lauded as the world’s largest Primark, this newly restored landmark has significantly changed the dynamic of the high street. The former Pavilions shopping centre has been transformed into a flagship retail store. The building has been over-clad with illuminated mesh facades, and while the proposal provides a distinctive and coherent identity, the façade forms part of an historic streetscape.
33 Greycoat Street, London
This refurbishment of a 70s office development in Victoria provides 23 elegant apartments. The existing building was not listed or in a conservation area but we retained the structure, with rear extension and full refurbishment and refitting of the interior, including plan rearrangements to maximise value. The dated and tired façade was demolished and a new contemporary architectural solution implemented which respected the existing structural grid to provide a quiet, elegant aesthetic.
Gleneagles Club, Edinburgh
We are sensitively converting a significant historic banking building having secured planning permission and listed building consent within a world heritage location. Our successful planning proposal allows the Client to gain the space required to make this a viable project with minimal intervention on the most significant building fabric. The design includes a discreet rooftop extension which will create a crucial guest experience, adding the necessary value for the Client within rigid planning constraints by mitigating any visual impact on the historic façade or townscape.
