A team of intrepid 3DReid cyclists took on the Etape Loch Ness monster cycle sportive at the end of April. This saw our team of 3DRiders, comprising Gordon McGhie, Charlie Ambrose, Manuel Cozzani, Joseph Grehan and Mark Lorimer, take on the 66 miles / 106 km closed-road route around the iconic Loch, starting and finishing in the Highland capital of Inverness.
Contrary to the bleak forecast leading up to the event, the weather was great, and all made it around safely. There were only a couple of mechanical faults during the cycle, including a puncture for Gordon and destroyed gears for Mark, which he attributes to his overly-powerful pedalling, although the fix resulted in him finishing the cycle with a better bike than he started on.
The more mature members of the team put the younger cyclists to shame to come out on top for both the overall time and the quickest up the ‘bloody massive, stupidly steep’ long mountain climb; and our congratulations go to Charlie and Gordon for showing them how it’s done.
A big well done to all involved and our thanks to those who sponsored the team raising over £960!
